Benjamin Been - Class Of 1914

Sevices for Benjamin S. Been, 84, of Burrows will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the Jackson Funeral Home in Delphi. He died at 3:10 p. m. Friday in the Broadripple Nursing Home, Indianapolis, where he had been a patient for two years. A farmer, cattle breeder and former automobile dealer, he was born May 24, 1896 near Burrows to Joseph and Alice Kinneman Been. He was married November 1, 1921 to Freida Emrick, who died in 1978. An alumnus of Delphi High School, he also attended Central Normal College. He raised registered Herefords. A former oil distributer and implement dealer, he was a Ford and Cadillac dealer in the 1930's and 1940's at Burrows under the name of Ben Been Motors. A World War I veteran, he served in France. A member of the National Agriculture Hall of fame, he was past commander Delphi American Legion Post. He was also a member of the Camden Masonic Lodge, the Logansport Elks Lodge, Logansport Shrine Club, Murat Shrine Temple, Scottish Rite and the Columbia Club in Indianapolis. A trustee in the Burrows Presbyterian Church and active in the Republican Party. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs Mary Austin. Indianapolis; a brother Jason, Delphi; a sister June West, West Lafayette; three grandchildren and two great grandchildren. The Rev James Riemanschneider will officiate at the Services. Burial will be in Brown Church Cemetery in Rock Creek Township. Friends may call at the Jackson Funeral Home from 6 to 9 p. m. today. PHAROS TRIBUNE 9/21/1980
