Vernon Gilliam - Class Of 1918

Vernon R. Gillam, 89, of Rt. 4, Delphi, died at 9:30 a.m. June 2, 1990, at his home. Born May 29, 1901, in Carroll County, he was the son of William T. and Lucy Miller Gillam. His marriage was Dec. 23, 1922, in Delphi, to Gladys Dawson, who survives. He was a 1918 graduate of Delphi High School and a graduate of Manchester College. He worked for 17 years as an electrician at Stellite Division of Union Carbide in Kokomo, retiring in 1964. Prior to that, he worked for 24 years at Continental Steel, Kokomo, in the electrical department. He had also farmed in Carroll County. He was a member of Mt. Olive Masonic Lodge 48, Delphi, and the Carroll County Farm Bureau. Surviving with his wife are one daughter, Adelene Smith, Delphi; one son, William "Bill" Gillam, Kokomo; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one sister. Services were Tuesday at Horn Funeral Home, with burial in Zion Cemetery, Rt. 2, Flora.
