Connie Spitler (Hoffman)

Connie Lee Spitler Hoffman, 79, of Delphi, died on Good Friday-Apr. 3, 2015 at her home unexpectedly. She was born Feb. 7, 1936 in Cass Co., on her grandparents farm near Galveston, to the late Truman & Reba Walker Spitler. She graduated from Delphi High School in 1954. She attended Manchester College, and received her BS in Education from the University of South Florida in 1970, and her Master's in Education from IUK in Kokomo. She started teaching at Bay Vista Elementary School in St. Petersburg, FL, for 1 year, then she moved back to Delphi, and started teaching at Camden Elementary for 2 years, then moving to Hillcrest Elementary, teaching 1st grade for 24 years, until she retired after 27 years of teaching. She was a longtime and very active member of the Pittsburg Church of the Brethren, now Living Faith Church of the Brethren near Flora. She was a deacon of the church, sang in the church choir, and was active with the women's group of the church. She was the secretary of the Delphi Alumni Association, and enjoyed Purdue Women's basketball, holding season tickets for 20 years. She was a member of the Indiana State Retired Teachers Association. She enjoyed music, and playing the piano. Connie's life was her three boys, their wives, and her grand & great grandchildren. She loved her family and all of the time they spent together. She attended church on Thursday evening, participating in their feet washing service and taking communion. Connie was a great woman of faith, and loved her Lord with all of her heart and soul. Our loss is her gain, as she is enjoying being in the presence of her savior Jesus. Surviving: son-Mike & Cindy Hoffman of South Bend, son-Mark & Ursula Hoffman of McCordsville, son-Steve & Dawn Hoffman of Crawfordsville; sister-Suzanne Hathaway of Delphi; brother-Philip & Carol Spitler of Kokomo. 8 grandchildren & 2 great grandchildren survive. Preceded in death by a sister & brother in law Joyce & Dave Johnson; brother in law Dick Hathaway; nephew Todd Hathaway. Services: Friends may call Tuesday from 5-8pm at Abbott Funeral Home Inc., Delphi. Funeral service Wednesday 11am at the Living Faith Church of the Brethren near Flora, Pastor Jeff Tomson officiating. Burial at Zion Citizens Cemetery, rural Carroll County.
