Orville Yates - Class Of 1945

Orville Yates, 75, died at 2:25 PM Thursday, Oct. 24, 2002, at his Flora home; he had been in ill health since March. Born March 6, 1927, in Carroll County, he attended Delphi High School. He married Doris I. Thiess in Delphi on Dec. 5, 1947; she survives. Mr. Yates owned and operated Yates Construction for several years, building homes and remodeling, primarily in Carroll County. He also worked at Gerber Globe Valve Corp. in Delphi for a few years. He was a member of First Brethren Church in Flora, and a veteran of the Army Cavalry and the Marine Corps, serving in the European theater during World War II. His hobbies were trap shooting, hunting, fishing and camping. He enjoyed professional sports. Surviving with his wife are a son, Kirk Yates of Brookston; four daughters, Diana (Mrs. Bob) McCarty of Burrow, Gail (Mrs. Dan) Seamster of Flora, Sandy Gee of Lafayette, and Linda (Mrs. Terry) Handy of Flora; two brothers, Jim Yates (wife Delores) of Delphi and Wayne Yates (wife Juanita) of Camden; three sisters, Mona Schmitter of Monticello, Wanda Best of Delphi, and Wilma (Mrs. Ed) Potter of Virginia; nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers. There will be a private family internment at the Masonic Cemetery, Delphi. --
