Lee Yates - Class Of 1939

Lee Yates Jr., 76, of Delphi, died unexpetedly at 2:07 a.m. April 27, 1998, at St. Elizabeth Hospital. Born Oct. 22, 1921, in White County, he was the son of Lee Yates Sr. and Eva Delon Yates. His marriage was on Sept. 21, 1946 in Paoli, to Donna J. Laymon, who survives. He worked 37 years at the former National Homes in Lafayette, retiring in 1984. He attended Delphi schools and was a lifetime resident of the Delphi area. He loved to hunt, fish, and work in his garden. Also surviving are one son, Robert L. “Rob” Yates of Bringhurst; two daughters, Leann Yates of Cape Canaveral, Fla., and Lynn Hicks of Spokane, Wash.; three brothers, Orville Yates of Flora, Wayne Yates of Camden, and Jim Yates of Delphi; three sisters, Wanda Best of Delphi, Wilma Potter of New Port Richey, Fla., and Mona Schmitter of Monticello; and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers. Services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Abbott Funeral Home with Rev. Larry DeVos officiating. Friends may call Wednesday from 4- 8 p.m. Burial will be in Masonic Cemetery, Delphi. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.
