Paul Howard Cain, 17, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Cain of Lafayette, formerly of Delphi, was killed in a naval engagement in which his ship, the U. S. S. Preston, was engaged off Guadalcanal in December, 1942. Cain had been in naval service since the spring of the same year. He attended the Delphi high school and enlisted in the service while he was a sophomore.
