Richard Snowberger - Class Of 1939

Richard T. “Dick” Snowberger, 80, of Delphi, died at 9:15 p.m. March 31, 2002, at St. Elizabeth Medical Center, Lafayette. Born May 26, 1921, in Delphi, he was the son of Raymond and Florence Shockey Snowberger. He attended Delphi High School. His marriage was to Mercedes House on Dec. 1, 1944, in Attica, and she survives. He retired June 1, 1983, after 41 years in the Extrusion Department, Unit 2, at Alcoa. Mr. Snowberger was an Army veteran of World War II, serving from June 1942 to January 1946 as a surgical tech 5 with the 20th Armored Division. He received the six-month European Theater Medal, the American Theater ribbon with Bronze Star, the Good Conduct Medal, and the Victory Medal. He was a member of the Missionary Baptist Church in Pittsburg and the Alcoa 25-Year Club. Also surviving are three daughters, Kathy Baker of Monticello, Debra Storey of Delphi, and Lisa Harrison of Monticello; one son, Jim Snowberger of Delphi; a sister, Annabelle Zarse, and a brother, George Snowberger, both of Reynolds; 15 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, seven brothers and four sisters. Services were today (Wednesday) at Davidson Funeral Home with Pastor Tim Stewart officiating. Burial was in IOOF Memory Gardens, Pittsburg, with military rites by the Delphi American Legion. Memorials may be made to the Carroll County Cancer Association.
