Stella Dimmick (Higginbotham) - Class Of 1879

Tne funeral of Mrs. Lucius Higginbotham was held from the family residence Monday afternoon at four o'clock. Rev. A. V. Wood and Rev. C. L. Harper officiated. Mrs. Mamie Martin Dodge, of Nashville, Tenn., sang, accompanied by Miss Josephine McLucas, violinist. The pall-bearers were James P. and Will B. Wason, Dr. Carney, Earl Smith, A. H. Brewer and A. B. Green. The death of Mrs. Higginbotham is the first in the class of 1879 of the Delphi high school. Thirty-five years ago the fifth day of last June, a class of eleven graduated from the local schools. D. D. Blakeman was superintendent and J. M Hitt, principal. The majority of the class have met many times since their graduation and the breaking of their circle in the death of Stella Dimmick Higginbotham is a personal sorrow to each of them. The members of the class are: Lucius Higginbotham, Mrs. Sylvia Stranahan Frisbee, Mrs. Lou Speece Blanchard, Miss Jennie Young, all of Delphi; Mrs. Jo Crawford Spayde, of North Dakota; Mrs. Lou Sonfeldt Wiseman and Mrs. Anna Phinney Jackson, of Chicago; Will Rankin, of California; Reed C. Schermerhorn, Buffalo, N. Y., Mrs. Grace Sims Pigman, Indianapolis. One of the handsome floral offerings at the funeral of Mrs. Higginbotham was sent from the class of '79. Delphi Carroll County Citizen Times August 15, 1914 Friday at noon in her home on West Front street. Mrs. Lucius Higginbotham passed away following an extended illness, through which she suffered patiently and bravely. Several weeks ago she sustained an operation at the Home hospital in Lafayette and remained there for some time, but was unable to rally after her return home. She was a faithful member of the Methodist church and active in all church work, a splendid example of womanhood and motherhood, and her death is a cause for grief to the entire community. She is survived by her husband and four children: Dick, of Santa Barbara, Cal.; Bessie, Kate and Ruth of this city. The funeral services were conducted four o’clock Monday afternoon by Rev. C. I. Harper of the Methodist church. Interment in the Masonic cemetery. Among those present were: Mr. and Mrs, W. W. Dimmick of Cincinnati, Ohio. Mrs. Ella Dimmick and children, John and Grace of Frankfort: Mr. and Mrs. S. B, McCracken of Elkhart.
