Reed Schermerhorn - Class Of 1879

Services were held Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock for Reed C. Schermerhorn, prominent resident of this county, who died last Thursday morning at the St. Elizabeth hospital, Lafayette, following an illness of five weeks. Mr. Schermerhorn, who was born in Delphi, was a graduate of the Delphi high school. He was president of the Carroll County Abstract Company for many years and gave generously of his services as chairman of the Carroll county Red Cross organization for nineteen years. He was married in November, 1897, to Miss Katherine Neff in Cincinnati, who died in February, 1899, at the time of the birth of a son, John Schermerhorn. A requiem mass was read at the St. Mary’s Episcopal church Saturday morning for members of the family with Rev. C. C. Reimer of Logansport in charge. Rev. Reimer also officiated at the services held in the afternoon. Burial was made in the Odd Fellows cemetery. Blythe and Sons were in charge of arrangements.
