Richard Ward - Class Of 1943

Pvt. Richard Ward, 19, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Ward of Ockley, has been missing in action in Germany since November 8, according to the message received Monday by the youth’s parents. In an army infantry division Pvt. Ward entered service on Nov. 17, 1943, and took basic training at Camp Croft, South Carolina. He was home on furlough in April of this year and went two weeks later to Fort Meade, Maryland. He left for overseas duty about the middle of June arriving in England July 1 and in France about Sept. 12. Moving up through the St. Lo area into Luxemburg and into Belgium around October 10, his parents believed that he had moved into Germany. Young Ward is a graduate of the Delphi high school, class of 1943. He has two sisters, Juanita of Lafayette, and Rozella, a Delphi high school student. Ward is the first Madison township youth to be reported missing in this war. Delphi Citizen November 30, 1944

 

Memorial services will be held at the Radnor Methodist Church next Sunday morning, November eleventh, at 11 o'clock for Pvt. Richard Ward, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Ward. Pvt. Ward a graduate of Delphi high school, in the class of 1943 entered the service in November, 1943 and was killed in action in Germany November 8, 1944. Delphi Journal November 8, 1945
