Shirley MaHanna - Class Of 1941

Shirley Ann MaHanna, 16, daughter of Captain William MaHanna, died Wednesday afternoon at 4:10 o’clock at the Home hospital in Lafayette, where she had been a patinet since early Tuesday morning. She had been suffering with diabetes and other ailments. Shirley was a patient at Riley hospital for several months in 1937 and had not been in sound health for several years. Daughter of Captain MaHanna and Isabelle Donbeck MaHanna, she would have been a junior in the Delphi high school next term. She was beloved by all her school friends. She became suddenly ill Saturday and by Monday her condition had become serious. An effort was made to locate Captain and Mrs. MaHanna, who with the latter’s mother, Mrs. Sam Dyer of Cutler, were on a vacation trip through the Western states. They learned of Shirley’s critical illness Tuesday afternoon while in Casper, Wyoming. They left immediately for Delphi. Surviving with the father are the step-mother, Mrs. Eloise Dyer MaHanna, a brother, William, Jr.; a sister, Marjorie Echo; a half sister, Gretchen Eloise, all at home; an aunt, Miss Ella MaHanna of Greencastle, and an uncle, Larry Donbeck of Gary. Mr. and Mrs. MaHanna arrive in Delphi last night at 11 o’clock after a hurried trip from Wyoming. Funeral arrangements have not yet been completed. The body is at the Grimm and Sons funeral home.
