Emma Welker (Hayden) - Class Of 1927

Mrs. Emma F. Welker Hayden, 66, of 829 North 7th St., Lafayette, died at 1:45 p.m. Saturday at Home Hospital, Lafayette. She had been hospitalized eight weeks and had been in ill health for several years. Born in Delphi July 25, 1909, she was the daughter of Stuart and Gertrude Wolver Welker. She lived in Delphi until moving to Lafayette in 1960. July 25,1927, in Delphi, she was married to James W. Hayden who preceded her in death Aug. 14, 1975. She was a graduate of Delphi High School, housemother for Sigma Chi Fraternity at Purdue University from 1958 to 1965, and a member of the Methodist Church and VFW Auxiliary No. 1154, Lafayette. She is survived by four sons, William S. and Louis E., both of Lafayette, James R. of Monticello, and Edgar T. of Delphi; two brothers, Louis Welker of Monticello and Donald Welker of Los Angeles, Calif.; five sisters, Mrs. Roy (Peg) Stoner of Delphi, Mrs. Ruth Holman of Orangeville, Ill., Mrs. Russell (Marybelle) Wright of Monticello, Mrs. James (Jayne) Darr of Paton, Iowa, and Miss Tootie Welker of Indianapolis; 22 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Services were Tuesday in Lafayette with Rev. Donald W. Ashley officiating. Burial followed in Springvale Cemetery, Lafayette.
