John Johnson - Class Of 1956

Feb. 7, 1938 - Sept. 23, 2016 OKLAHOMA CITY September 23, 2016, brought to close 78 years of a life fully lived for John A. Johnson, of Oklahoma City. John was born February 7, 1938, to Geneiva Mae (Harris) & Howard Richard Johnson in Logansport, IN. Following graduation from Delphi High School in 1956, John went on to serve his country in the United States Air Force during Vietnam. He retired from his time in the Air Force as a master sergeant. John went on to pursue higher education at Purdue University, graduating in 1982. He then went to work for the FAA as an instructor. An avid outdoorsman, John could be found hunting in his free time. He was a member of the Tri City Gun Club and enjoyed going to the shooting range. John also had a love of aviation. He loved working on aircraft as well as flying. John also had an appreciation for antique cars. Always up for adventure, he entered a drawing that granted John the opportunity to carry the torch in the 1989 U.S. Olympic Festival. John's pride in his country led him to volunteer at the Welcome Center at Will Rogers Airport for our veterans. John was preceded in death by his loving wife, Susan Johnson; parents; brother, Dave Johnson; and grandson, John Thornburg. John is survived by his daughters, Kelly Thornburg and Johnna Cryer and husband Jason; brother, Claude Johnson; his grandchildren, Jennifer Thornburg, Lilly Cryer, Riley Cryer, and Katie Lakey and husband Derrick; great-grandchildren, Peyton Lakey, Lana Lakey, Emily Thornburg, Aaden Thornburg, Liam McGlathery; stepfather, Charles P. McCain; and many other family and friends. Visitation for John will be Wednesday, September 28, 1-8 p.m. with family present 6-8 p.m. Services to celebrate his life will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, September 29, 2016, at the Resthaven Funeral Home Chapel. He will be laid to rest at Resthaven Memory Gardens. Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Resthaven Funeral Home and Memory Gardens, www.ResthavenOKC.com
