Charles Scowden - Class Of 1949

Charles “Chod” Scowden, 68, of Delphi, died Sept. 24, 2000 at 2:30 p.m. in St. Elizabeth Healthcare Center, Delphi, where he had been a resident since Sept. 1. He was born Sept. 28, 1931, in Carroll County, to Noah and Bernice Leffler Scowden. Mr. Scowden worked for 44 years at Gerber Globe Valve Corp., Delphi, retiring in 1992. He attended Delphi schools. From 1951-55 he served in the United States Air Force and was stationed in Germany. He was a member of Delphi American Legion Post #75 and was a life member of Delphi V.F.W. Post. He enjoyed gardening, mushroom hunting, fishing and game hunting. Surviving are three brothers, Kenneth “Pete” Scowden of Buck Creek, Robert “Bob” Scowden of Monticello and Richard “Rick" Scowden of West Lafayette; five sisters, Irma Sprunger of Punta Gorda, FL, Dorothy “Dot" McCormick of Delphi, Velma Davis of Deerfield Beach, Fla., Helen Michael of Logansport and Katherine “Kit" Rehwald of Pomano Beach, Fla. One sister and one brother preceded him in death. Services were today, Wednesday, at Abbott Funeral Home, Delphi, with Pastor J.P. Freeman and Todd A. Wenger officiating. Burial was at Pretty Prairie Cemetery, Battle Ground, with Delphi American Legion military rites.
