Fern Fincher (Plunkett) - Class Of 1933

Fern H. Fincher Plunkett, 86, of St. Elizabeth Healthcare Center, Delphi, died at 6:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 3, 2001, in Home Hospital, Lafayette. She was a Delphi resident prior to moving to the center in March. She was born in Lockport on April 26, 1915, to Frank and Branch Holsclaw Fincher. She married Harry Plunkett at Marion on Oct. 3, 1929. He died Aug. 8, 1978. She attended Delphi High School. She was a nurse's aid at St. Elizabeth Hospital and also had worked at Globe Valve Manufacturing in Delphi. She was a member of the Westside Flower Club of Delphi and a former member of the Women's Auxiliary of the Eagles Lodge in Delphi where she was a past president and secretary of the lodge. She was also a former precinct committeeman for the Carroll County Democratic Party. Her hobbies included crocheting. She is survived by a son, James (Margaret) Plunkett of Brookston; four daughters, Arlene (Calvin) Page of Delphi, Elizabeth (Chuck) Godbey of Ladoga, Sandra (Roger) Calhoun of Bristol and Nancy (H.L.) Calhoun of Mishawaka; three sisters, Betty (Carl) Spear of Delphi, Georgia (Corbett) Judd of Monticello and Kathryn Schidler of Lafayette; 24 grandchildren; 56 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren. A son, a daughter, two brothers and five sisters are deceased. Visitation will be from 4-8 Sunday at Abbott Funeral Home, Delphi. Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home with Pastor Nord Zootman officiating. Burial will be in Pretty Prairie Cemetery, Battle Ground.
