Daniel Shaffer - Class Of 1939

Daniel Michael Shaffer , 85, of Maple Ct., South Bend, Ind. Formerly of Camden, Ind. Died at 6 a.m. Friday, June 17, 2005 in his residence. Mr. Shaffer was born April 6, 1920 in Burrows, Ind. To the late Floyd and Anna Margaret (Guckien) Shaffer and had lived in South Bend since 1999 coming from Camden. On June 7, 1947 in Hull, Mass. He married Elaine F. Farrell who survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Nancy (Lloyd) Luke of Modesto, Calif. and Barbara (Stanley) Blenke of South Bend; five grandchildren, Jennifer (Jonathan) Goulding, Meghan Luke, Jason Blenke, Jill Blenke and Erin (Aaron) Good; four great-grandchildren, Dylan Good, Daniel Goulding, Matthew Goulding and Noelle Luke; and one sister, Catherine (Max) Martin of Burrows. He was preceded in death by a sister, Anna Margaret Henderson and an infant brother. Mr. Shaffer retired as a self-employed farmer in 1985. He was a veteran of the United States Army during World War II. He was a member of All Saints Catholic Church and the former St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church both of Logansport. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus in Logansport. He was an excellent woodworker and took great pride in his projects. He loved being outside and enjoyed the beauty of nature and his work as a farmer which constantly brought him in contact with nature. But his greatest love was his family who will miss him tremendously. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 22 in St. Jude Catholic Church, 19704 Johnson Rd. with Rev. Derrick Sneyd officiating. Burial will follow in Southlawn Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 until 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 21st in the Welsheimer Family Funeral Home North, 17033 Cleveland Rd. where a parish rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the church.
