Opal Cheesman (Dunn) - Class Of 1929

Opal B. Dunn, 85, of Delphi, died at 12:15 a.m. March 14,1997, at St. Elizabeth Healthcare Center, Delphi, where she had been a patient for three days. Born Dec. 22, 1911, in Lafayette, she was the daughter of Edmon and Anna Cripe Cheesman. Her marriage was on Jan. 26, 1929, in Delphi, to Louis A. Dunn, who died April 29, 1982. She was educated in the Delphi schools and lived in the Delphi community most of her life. A charter member of the Pittsburg Church of the Brethren, she also was a charter member of the Tippecanoe County Area Genealogical Society and the Westside Flower Club. She was a member of Carroll County Farm Bureau, and a former member of the Colburn Home Demonstration Club, WCTU, and Tipwa Grange. She loved to travel, embroider, and play bunco. Surviving are two daughters, Nancy Simmons of Delphi and Roberta Robson of Lafayette; a son, Louis A. Dunn Jr. of Anderson; a sister, Bertha Bowyers Flora; 11 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-granddaughter. She was preceded in death by four brothers and five sisters. Services were Monday at the Pittsburg Church of the Brethren with Rev. Terry Vaught and Rev. Janet Hildreth officiating. Burial was in Tippecanoe Memory Gardens in West Lafayette. Horn Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to the Pittsburg Church of the Brethren.
