Mahlon Clawson - Class Of 1926

Mahlon K. “Skinny” Clawson, 89, of Delphi, died at 3:40 a m. March 19, 1998, at St. Elizabeth Healthcare Center, Delphi. He had been a patient there for the past six weeks. Born Aug. 27, 1908, in Radnor, he was the son of John W. and Melvina Hennis Clawson. His marriage was on Aug. 26, 1936, in Flora, to Donnabelle Zook, who survives. He worked 45 years for the former Monon Railroad and L&N Railroad, retiring in 1973. He then worked for the former Jackson Funeral Home in Delphi for five years and then the Jackson-Strawn Funeral Home and Horn Funeral Home in Delphi, retiring in 1984. He was educated in the Radnor and Delphi schools and served in the Army in World War II. He was in the 852nd Aviation Engineer Division in the European theater. Mr. Clawson was a lifetime member of the Radnor United Methodist Church and the Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way Employees, and a member of Delphi American Legion Post 75. Also surviving are one daughter, Shirley Stockton of rural Kokomo; a sister, Margaret Kirk of Anderson; and one granddaughter. He was preceded in death by three brothers and one sister. Services were Saturday at Horn Funeral Home with Rev. Phil Lake officiating. Burial was in Maple Lawn Cemetery with American Legion rites.
