Isaac Cripe


Isaac W. Cripe, 73 years old, editor and publisher of the Williamsport Review, a Republican weekly, died at his home in Williamsport, Indiana at 11:30 P. M. Saturday, an hour after being stricken with a heart attack. Mr. Cripe entered the newspaper field in Delphi 21 years ago when he became a partner with Bert Mayhill in the Delphi Journal. He had been superintendent of the Delphi Public schools for the two previous years. A year later he sold his interest in the Journal and bought the Williamsport Review, which he has published since. He was active in both the Indiana Republican Editorial Association and the Hoosier State Press Association. He was graduated from The Academy at North Manchester and Indiana University, later taking post graduate work at the University of Chicago and spent nine months in study in England. He spent 25 years in the field of education serving as a rural teacher in Clay township and in North Dakota, and as principal of the schools at Cutler, West Newton in Marion Co., and as superintendent at Converse and Gas City before coming to Delphi. He was born in Carroll County, the son of Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Cripe, and spent his early life in the Pyrmont community. He was married March 30, 1904 to Rhua Quinn of the Cutler community. Surviving in addition to the widow are two children: Herbert S., at home and Mrs. J. Clark Griffith, Boswell; a brother, Perry Cripe, Lafayette, for many years a merchant in Ockley; and three sisters, two of whom are Mrs. Ida Pressel, Fresno, Cal., and Mrs. Cora Harris, Bloomfield, W. Va. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at Willlamsport Methodist Church. Rev. Fred Longwell officiating; burial hi Highland cemetery.
