Dick Crowden - Class Of 1946

Charles Lee "Dick" Crowden, 51, director of special projects at National Homes Corp., died Thursday, July 1, 1976, in Merrillville Methodist Hospital. He apparently suffered a heart attack while driving back to Lafayette from Chicago on 1-65 near U.S. 30. Mr. Crowden was born at Mulberry, reared at Delphi and moved to Lafayette in 1944. He had been associated with National Homes for 30 years. In 1952 he was married to Anna M. Mikels. He was a 1946 graduate of Delphi High School and attended Indiana University. He served with the Air Force in the Pacific Theatre in World War and was a member of American Legion Post 75 of Delphi and F&AM Tippecanoe Lodge 492. Surviving with the widow are three daughters, Nancy Crowden, Lafayette; Sue and Julia Crowden, both at home; his parents, Eugene E. and Dorothy Dieter Crowden Sr., Lafayette; three brothers, Eugene E. Crowden Jr., Augusta, Ga., Donald L. Crowden, Lafayette, and John Joseph Crowden, Berea, Ky. Final rites were Monday in First Christian Church at Lafayette where he was a member. Burial was on Tippecanoe Memory Gardens.
