Charles Ward - Class Of 1924

Word has been received of the death of Charles A. Ward, 96, of Houston, a former Carroll County resident, who died at 6:06 p.m. Friday, May 10, 2002, at Jacinto City Healthcare Center in Houston. He was born in Carroll County on Oct. 26, 1905 [1906], to Silas and Blanch Brewer Ward. He married Pearl Humphrey in Delphi on June 20, 1925. She died on April 6, 1968. He attended Delphi schools. He farmed in Deer Creek Township, Carroll County, for several years before moving to Houston in 1955. He worked for Brown & Root Construction Co. as a warehouse superintendent, and retired in 1971. He was a former member of Pilgrim Holiness Church (now Delphi Wesleyan Church). He enjoyed fishing, deer hunting and boating, and had traveled the United States with his wife. Survivors include sons, Raymond Ward and Silas Ward, both of Delphi, Charles R. (Donna) Ward of Baltimore, Md., and Kenneth (Pat) Ward of Brimmerton, Wash.; a daughter, Meredith Ward Doolan of Houston; 14 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. A son, Jim, five brothers and three sisters are deceased. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. today at Abbott Funeral Home, Delphi. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with Raymond Todd officiating. Burial will be at New Richmond Cemetery, New Richmond.
