John Freitag - Class Of 1943

John (Jack) Freitag, 93, passed away on July 6, 2017 in Delphi, Indiana.
 
 Services will be held Tuesday, July 11th at the Abbott Funeral Home Inc., 421 E. Main in Delphi, Indiana. Deacon James Rush will be officiating. There will be a visitation from 12pm until his funeral service at 2pm. The burial will take place at the Delphi Masonic Cemetery with Carroll County Honor Guard Military Rites.
 
 Jack was born on March 8th, 1924 in Ashland, IL, son of the late William and Anna (Newell) Freitag. In 1936 the family moved to Indiana where he graduated from Delphi High School in 1943. Jack served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was in the second wave of the D-Day invasion at Normandy, France. He was later wounded in combat, captured by the Germans and held as a POW for six months. Jack received a Purple Heart for his wounds and was honorably discharged from the Army. Upon returning from the war, he settled in Delphi with his family and farmed for the remainder of his life.
 
 He is survived by his partner of over 30 years Susie Stewart, his sister Helen Taylor of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, nephews Bruce Owens (Jan), Leroy, IL, Mike Eckman (Mavis), St. Charles, IL, Bill Eckman (Teesa), Lafayette, IN and nieces Patti Plack (Jeff), Glenview, IL and Carol Sprague, Lafayette, IN. Jack is also survived by many loving grand and great nieces and nephews. He was proceeded in death by his parents, sisters Rosemary Owens and Kathryn Eckman and brother Bob Freitag.
 
 Jack’s family would like to thank the members of the St. Elizabeth Hospice for their caring support during his battle with cancer.
