Gertrude Hall (Sheets) - Class Of 1929

E. Gertrude Hall Sheets, Delphi, died at 2;25 p.m. Monday, Aug. 18, 1997, in St. Elizabeth health Care Center, Delphi, where she had resided since March. She had been ill for three months. Born Dec. 16, 1911, in Delphi, she was the daughter of Oscar W. and Grace A. Mullendore Hall. She was married Aug. 29, 1930, to Luther E. “Bud” Sheets, who preceded Feb. 19, 1988. A livelong resident of Carroll County, she had lived in Delphi since 1930. She graduated from Delphi High School in 1929, and later from Huffer Beauty College in Lafayette. She owned and operated Gertrude’s Beauty Shop in Delphi for 35 years, retiring in 1974. She had also worked for many years as a secretary and receptionist for Dr. John Wagoner, in Delphi. She was a former member of the Brand Army of the Republic and Delphi Business, Professional Women’s Organization, Rebecca Lodge, Colburn Home Economics Club, the Home Ec. Choir, and she was a former secretary of the State National Women’s Relief Corp. She was a member of Delphi United Methodist Church, where she taught the Make Merry Sunday School Class for many years. Surviving are two daughters, Mae Belle Pettit, Delphi, and Nancy Louise Runkle, Colburn; a brother, John Hall, Tucson, Ariz.; a half sister, Hulda June Rouse, Attica; 11 grandchildren; and 7 great-grandchildren. A brother and a sister preceded her in death. Burial was in the Rossville Cemetery.
