Ida L. Downs, 89, of Lafayette, died Dec. 24, 2003, in Lafayette. Born on Nov. 7, 1914, in Delphi, she was the daughter of William and Sylvia Messner Downs. She attended Delphi High School. Ms. Downs retired in 1984, after working for 25 years as a cook in Wiley Hall at Purdue University. She enjoyed cooking, traveling and collecting old movies. Surviving is a daughter, Sandy Downs of Lafayette, and a grandson. She was preceded in death by a son and a sister. Services were Dec. 27 at Davidson Funeral Home, with burial at IOOF Cemetery in Brookston. Memorials may be made to Tippecanoe County Humane Society or to The House of Ruth.
