Joe Parr - Class Of 1952

Joseph Paul "Joe" Parr, 78, of Lafayette, passed away on Friday, February 8, 2013 in Mulberry Health & Retirement Community. Joseph was born on June 2, 1934 in Lafayette, to the late Henry Dewey and Mary L. (Buckles) Parr. He graduated from Delphi High School. On July 21, 1956, he married Myrtle Louise Martin in Lafayette and she survives. Joe began serving his country in the United States Air Force on September 25, 1951. He trained at the end of the Korean War as a Tail Gunner. He then was stationed at Hunter Air Force Base in Savannah, GA and while there he was sent to Morocco to work on service tankers and KC97's. He was also stationed at Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi, MS, Johnson Air Station in Japan, McConnell Air Force Base in Wichita, KS, Takhli, Thailand, Tan Son Nhut Air Base in Vietnam, Lowry Air Force Base in Denver, CO. He retired in Colorado in 1972. He then went to work for Purdue University as the Head Electronic Technician in the Electronic Engineering Department for 25 years, retiring in 2000. Joe is survived by his wife, Louise, and children, Paula Kay (Lanny) Hahn, of Dayton, Paul Michael Perdue and Danielle Leigh Perdue, both of Lafayette; a sister, Mildred Maas of Lafayette, and a brother, William (Marion) Parr of Lafayette. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Sarah Hahn and Harrison Hahn, and a great-grandchild, Evan Hamrlik. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Vicki Lynn Perdue and 6 brothers. A Service with Military Honors will be on Wednesday, February 13th at 2 p.m. with Pastor Brian White officiating at Fisher Funeral Chapel.
