Gordon Moore - Class Of 1940

Gordon J, Moore. 84, of rural Delphi, died at 6:45 a.m. on Nov, 24, 2005, at his residence. Born in Carroll County on Aug 7. 1921, he was the son of Gordon C. and Eva F. Beard Moore. He attended Delphi schools. His marriage was to Mona A. Crim on April 14, 1967 in Aurora, and she survives. Mr. Moore served as a U.S. Army Ranger in the South Pacific during World War ll, He was employed as a millwright for National Lead Company in Hamilton, Ohio, for over 30 years, retiring in 1982. Mr. Moore had been a member o f the Moose Lodge in Aurora and Delphi; the American Legion; and was a life member of Delphi VFW. He enjoyed dancing, bowling, hunting, fishing and trap shooting. He also enjoyed stock car racing and was a stock car race driver. Surviving with his wife are six daughters, Rose E. Hoshaw and Pam Burge (husband: Mike), both of Delphi, Betty Paul (husband: Dan) and Linda Whaley (husband: Ridgley), both o f Lafayette. Leisha Workman (husband: Arthur) of Aurora, and Eva Denise Sulfridge of Dillsboro: two sons, Larry L. Moore (wife: Shirley) of Lafayette and Tom Hitt (wife: Mary) of London, Ky.; two stepdaughters. Jane Penn of Germantown, Pa., and Sue Martin of Pittsburg; two stepsons, Robert K. Bums of Quilcene, Wash., and Thomas Maoris of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; two sisters, Virginia Cole of McMinnville, Tenn., and Shirley Saltsman of Delphi; 10 grandchildren; and 21 greatgrandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents Gordon and Eva Beard Moore; two brothers, Charles Moore and Robert Moore; a stepson, Leroy Marris; and twin great-granddaughters. Amber and Ashley Irvine. Services were Monday at Davidson Funeral Home in Delphi, with burial and military graveside rites by the Delphi American Legion and VFW at Masonic Cemetery in Delphi.
