Robert Browne - Class Of 1955

Robert D. Browne, 84, Glenburn, ND, passed away Thursday, September 17, 2020, in rural Glenburn, ND.

Robert was born June 24, 1936, the son of Robert Lee Browne and Virginia Lee(Simmons)Browne, in Camden, IN. He was raised outside of Monticello, IN on Sunnybrook Farms where they farmed and raised cattle, hogs, chickens. He graduated from Delphi High School in 1955. He served in the Indiana National Guard for a while after high school.

Bob met Ferral Benjamin in October 1955 at the local teen hangout, the Wagon Wheel, in Monticello, IN. They married three months later on January 1, 1956.

Bob enlisted in the United States Air Force in June of 1956. They were stationed at several air bases prior to being at Ramsey Air Base in Puerto Rico. It was during this time they adopted Rob and Keely. Later they were stationed at Castle Air Force Base in California where Tanya was adopted. Minot Air Force Base was the final stop in his long military career and there they adopted Mike from Seoul, Korea.

Bob had multiple Tours of Duty including, Okinawa, Guam, Thailand and England. After 20 years of service he retired as a Tech Sergeant in 1976, serving as shop chief for FMS.  He then moved his family to Glenburn, ND. While living in Glenburn, Children’s Village contacted Bob and Ferral which led to the adoption of Donna and then Donald.

After retiring from the Air Force, Bob was employed at Behm’s Propane and worked in applications and then worked a service tech.  He worked for Behm’s for 20 years. He then moved on to his final career and obtained his CNA license working 5 more years at Trinity Nursing Home in Minot, ND.  It was this training that helped him care for Ferral in her final years with us.

Ferral passed away on November 11, 2012. Bob continued to live in Glenburn.

Bob was a member of First Baptist Church Glenburn, where he was a deacon, and attended Immanuel Baptist Church Minot. He also served on the Glenburn School Board.

Bob loved his wife, family and country. Everything in his life revolved around humor, he loved to laugh and put a smile on everyone’s face.  He had no problem laughing at himself as well!  He was a very accomplished painter and loved to draw. He has left us hundreds of drawings to remember him by.  He also loved to bake and cook with new and old recipes.  He had acquired quite a cook book collection in the last few years.  He was known to overcook his breads and his steaks were always grilled “well done” much to his families’ dismay. However, he soon perfected his cooking abilities and his last loaves of zucchini nut bread were simply the best!   He will be missed by his family, and especially missed by his TikTok buddy, daughter Keely.
