Tobias Schmitter - Class Of 1939

Tobias J. “Toby” Schmitter, 94, of Frankfort, passed away after his last rites on Friday, September 4, 2015, at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis.

Toby served in the Air Corps during World War II in the South Pacific.  He then worked in construction in hi-rise buildings and farmed part-time.  He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and Knights of Columbus.

Toby was born on February 12, 1921, in Battle Ground, to Mr. and Mrs. Frank Schmitter.  He married Rosalie Harrington who passed away in 1972.  He is also predeceased by his parents, four brothers, Francis, Paul, Robert, and Richard; and two sisters, Marie Randel and Anna Wetli.

Surviving are four sons, James (Elaine) Dotson of Avon, Keith (Cynthia) Schmitter of Frankfort, Timothy (Mary) Schmitter of Plainfield, and Bruce Schmitter of West Lafayette; one daughter, Rita (Christopher) Hendricks of Marysville, MI; five grandchildren, Eric, Tiffany, Christina, Ryan, and Kevin; two brothers, Lawrence of Elwood, and Hubert of Frankfort; and one sister, Mary Busald in Rushville.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 8, 2015, at Genda Funeral Home in Frankfort, from 4:00 -7:00 p.m.  A rosary service will held before visitation at 3:30 p.m.  Funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, September 9, 2015, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Frankfort, with Fr. Chris Miller officiating.  In lieu of flowers, memorials in Toby’s name may be made to Clinton County Cancer.  Online condolences may be directed to www.gendafuneralhome.com.
