Bill Lucas - Class Of 1966

William "Bill" P. Lucas, 75, of Lafayette, IN, passed away on Friday, February 17, 2023.

He was born on January 23, 1948 in Lafayette to the late Donald J. and Cynthia E. (Killian) Lucas.

After graduating in 1966 from Delphi High School, Bill enlisted in the United States Army. He served 2 tours in Vietnam as a single rotor helicopter maintenance crew chief from 1966 to 1969. Bill received multiple medals and citations for his service.

On December 28, 1974, he married Norma Mabbitt at her mother's house in Boyleston, Indiana.

Bill was a truck driver for over 32 years. First with Remington Freight then he retired from USF Holland. In the 70's he was the manager of the Waffle House and that is where he met Norma.

Bill was a member of Buck Creek United Methodist Church and attended Grace United Methodist Church. He was a member of the American Legion Post 11, VFW, AMVETS, DAV, Vietnam Crew Members Association, Americal Division, 40&8, NRA, Goldwing Association, Ducks Unlimited, and he was a founding member of the American Huey Museum at Grissom Air Force Base.

Bill was known as Mr. Fix-It and enjoyed tinkering. He enjoyed planting flowers and tomatoes and riding his motorcycle.

Surviving are his wife, Norma Lucas of Lafayette; his daughters, Christine (Seth) Fultz of Lafayette and Betty Jean "BJ" Bryant of Warner Robbins, GA; his sister, Martha Rainbolt of Lafayette; and his brother John (Mary) Lucas of Battle Ground, his grandchildren; Terry, Brandon, Kassidee, and Kalissa. Also surviving are his kitties; Sugar, Baby, Missy, and Lily.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Jerry and Hershel Lucas and a niece Michele Lucas.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 21, 2023 from 5-8 p.m. at Fisher Funeral Chapel. Services will be on Wednesday, February 22, 2023 at 10 a.m Fisher Funeral Chapel. Burial with military honors will follow in Tippecanoe Memory Gardens, West Lafayette.
