Charles Clawson - Class Of 1947

Charles W. Clawson, 95, of Lafayette passed away Sunday, August 4, 2024 at his home.

Charles was born January 7, 1929 in Lafayette, IN, to the late Paul and Vesta (Rhode) Clawson. He was a graduate of Delphi High School and proudly served his country in the United States Air Force.

On July 8, 1951 he married the love of his life, Alverda “Bert” Ford in Lafayette, IN. She preceded him in passing on April 2, 2014.

Charles was a Truck Driver at McDaniel and a member of the Teamsters Local #543 and #135 for over 33 years. He enjoyed gambling in Las Vegas and area casinos, listening to country music and being with his family.

Surviving is daughter in-law: Amy Clawson; his brothers: Robert (Anna) and Floyd “Tuffy” Clawson (Terri); sister: Betty Jean Spear; sister-in-law: Tami Clawson; grandsons: Joshua (Megan) Clawson and Justin (Becky) Clawson; great-grandchildren: Braydon and Clayton Clawson and Hayley Fisher; close friends, neighbors for 32 years and blessed caretakers: Bill and Julie Harris; and his beloved parakeet: “Pretty Bird” Ivory.

Along with his wife, Bert, he is preceded in death by his son: Terry Lee Clawson; parents and siblings: Nellie Zahn, Mary Pinkston, Kathryn Barnes, Barbara Whitaker, Richard, Paul “Junior” and Albert “Butch” Clawson; brothers-in-law: Leroy Zahn, Robert Pinkston and Robert Whitaker; and sister-in-law: Betty Marsh.

Visitation will be held from 11am – 12pm on Friday, August 9, 2024 at Hippensteel Funeral Home. Funeral service will begin at 12pm with Pastor David Harris officiating. Interment will follow at Tippecanoe Memory Gardens. In lieu of usual remembrances, memorial contributions may be directed to the Veteran’s of Foreign Wars.
