Carmen Sue Ann Newton Jargstorf, 85, of Delphi, passed away Sunday-September 8, 2024, at St. Elizabeth Healthcare Center in Delphi, after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer. Sue Ann was born May 1, 1939, in Peru, to the late James & Carmen Holton Newton. Her marriage was to William H. "Bill Jocko" Jargstorf, on January 28, 1961, and he survives. She graduated from Logansport High School in 1957. She received her BA from Indiana State University in 1962, majoring in history, and her MS in education from Purdue University in 1972 majoring in library science. She began her teaching career at Camden Elementary School and then was the first high school librarian at the new Delphi Community High School in 1970. Because her husband was appointed assistant principal at the high school, she was transferred to being the librarian at Delphi Community Middle School. She then spent 25 years as the librarian at Fairview Elementary and Middle School in Logansport. During her time at Logansport, computers were being introduced to education and she was tasked with teaching the new technology to the staff. She was also known as a storyteller, an traveled the State giving seminars on storytelling as a way to get young readers interested in books. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and was deeply devoted to her religion. She supplied flowers from her garden for the altar for many years. She volunteered her time and energy to providing meals to those needing a funeral dinner at the church fellowship hall. When her church called, she answered. She and her husband wintered in Gulf Shores, AL, for 25 years and made frequent trips to New Orleans. She traveled with her sister to spend time with her special niece, Darcy Ann & Jason Gonzales, visiting Italy (Rome) and other European countries. She was known for her gardens and specialized in turning an immaculate lawn into flower beds. She loved to go to flea markets searching for collectibles including Blue Ridge pottery, half dolls, Guardian ware and Tab memorabilia. She was a voracious reader of both fiction and nonfiction books. She often checked out ten books at a time so she wouldn't be caught without reading material. Most of all, she cherished her family. She gathered them all together as often as she could, hosting them for holidays, especially Thanksgiving and Christmas. She was preceded in death by her parents. Surviving: husband William H. "Bill Jocko" Jargstorf of Delphi, son-Mark & Diana Jargstorf of Delphi, grandson-Dr. Justin Jargstorf of Louisville, KY, granddaughter-Dr. Jordayn Jargstorf of Indianapolis, sister-Marilyn Williams of Kokomo, brother-J. Micha (Linda) Newton of Prospect Heights, IL, sister-Janet Newton of Logansport, brother-Pat Newton of Morrison, CO, sister-Terra Newton (Tom Trueb) of Delphi. Services: A memorial Mass will be held on Monday-September 23, 2024, at 11am at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Delphi, Fr. Chris Miller officiating. The family will receive friends from 10am until the time for her mass at the church. Private family interment will take place. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Association.
