Robert Roach - Class Of 1937

Robert Charles Roach, 103 1/2, passed away Thursday-August 17, 2023, at 10:20am, at Cumberland Pointe Healthcare in West Lafayette, where he has resided for the past 9 years. He was born January 7, 1920, in Delphi, to the late John & Agnes Branigan Roach. His marriage was to Alene Hawkins Smith in Delphi, on February 25, 1940, and she preceded him in death on February 10, 1993. He graduated from Delphi High School in 1937. He was a U.S. Coast Guard veteran, serving from May 6, 1942, until his honorable discharge on November 15, 1945. He was stationed in Norfolk, VA. After returning to Delphi, he and his family moved to Lafayette in 1965, so he could be closer to his work at the former Eli Lilly & Co., in Lafayette.  He worked there for 30 years, and was a night supervisor, retiring on January 1, 1982. He was a member of St. Mary's Cathedral in Lafayette. He was a member of the Delphi American Legion Post 75, and the Lafayette Moose Lodge. He enjoyed tinkering around his family's farm in White County, helping during harvest and providing transportation to the fields. And even bringing doughnuts to the farm hands on special occasions. He and his family enjoyed traveling, especially the East coast, from Maine to Florida. He enjoyed Purdue University sports and always rooting on the Boilers. He dearly loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them for any occasion. Surviving: daughter-Janice & Kenneth Weber of Freeport, IL, daughter-Christine & William Wehrs of The Villages, FL, 3 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, and 1 great great granddaughter survive. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter Jennifer Elizabeth Weber, a sister Mary Katherine Roach Myers, and a nephew John Myers. Services: Visitation will be Monday at Cumberland Pointe Healthcare Chapel, 1051 Cumberland Ave., West Lafayette, IN 47906, from 10:30am to 11:30am, and a graveside service will follow at Masonic Cemetery at 1:30pm, in Delphi, Father Chris Miller officiating.
