Mike Walters

Marine Cpl. Michael Walters, 19, critically burned in action in Vietnam, died of the injuries in an armed forces hospital in Japan.
  His parents, Mr. and Mrs. Eugene "Jack" Walters, of Rt. 2, Delphi, received the word Monday.
  Cpl. Walters was injured July 5 in Anhoa Kwang Nam Province when mortar fire set off explosives on a truck in which he was riding.
  He received second and third degree burns over 90 per cent of his body.  He was treated on the U.S. Hospital Ship Sanctuary and later was transferred to Yokohama.  Officials had planned to take him to the Burn Center in Houston, Texas, as soon as possible.
  Cpl. Walters was scheduled to start home July 9 from Vietnam where he had been stationed since July, 1968 for two years.
  In October, the Marine was hospitalized for shrappel wounds in his left leg and foot and again for another 30-day period in February with malaria.
  Cpl. Walters was born Sept. 13, 1949, in Logansport and attended Delphi Schools.  He was a member of the Delphi Christian Church.
  Surviving with the parents are two sisters, Mrs. Leanne Wilson of Rt. 2, Delphi, and Mrs. Jacqueline Aldrich of Delphi; and his materanl grandmother, Mrs. Lucy Collins of Rt. 2, Delphi.
  The body will be returned to Delphi with military escort.  At military services, pallbearers will be from the Marine Corps and the color guard from Delphi American Legion.
  Arrangements are pending at Sullivan Lloyd Funeral Home in Delphi. Burial was in Morning Heights Cemetery, Delphi.

Mike was in the service stationed in Texas and there was a fire. Mike was burned badly and he ended up passing away. Thanks, Mike, for your service to keep everyone free. Unfortunately, you paid the price for which we all appreciate, but are sorry for the pain and suffering you endured. Later.
