Graduated Purdue School of Pharmacy 1974
Worked for independent pharmacies in Fountain County for 34 years. Made transition to working for Walmart in Danville, IL in 2008. Married John R. Grubbs in 1976. He is a Lilly retiree now and farms. I left Walmart at the end of 2012 and am semi-retired now. The independent pharmacy in Danville, IL where I was working part time closed its doors in April 2017. My total number of grandchildren is now ten. On Sept. 17, 2013, my daughter gave birth to twin sons, Miles and Evan, who look nothing alike. Her daughter, Gretchen, was born on April 7, 2015, and youngest daughter was born November 27, 2016. Cynthia's family lives in Arlington Virginia. My son has three children, Xavier, Braxton, and Kinlee, and my oldest stepson has two daughters, Taylor and Summer, and a two year old son, Jay'den. Taylor was married in September 2017.
I was writing on the chalkboard in Mr. Wilcox's Algebra II class before it started. I wrote the phrase from Laugh-In, "Blow in my ear and I'll follow you anywhere." He walked in and chased me with a yardstick. I don't think he hit me!
As far as memories, Delphi holds many, including world history team teaching classes with Mr. McGrew and Mrs. Whitehead. Speech class with Mr. Buck always stands out in my mind. Mr. Geheb had a big influence on my decision to become a pharmacist (after Frank Fitch). P.E. with Miss Ghere wasn't so bad!
Mary Ellen's Latest Interactions
I just saw some Delphi pictures on Facebook that were shared by Candi Pastor Harrison. You were in some of the pictures with your parents. It reminded me that you reached out to me when I was in Pharmacy School at Purdue - Class of 1974. You were in my brother's class of 1962 at Delphi (Jim Scott). Jim has been gone for almost 8 years this month. I have been retired from pharmacy for 8 years in April. Most of my career was spent working for independent pharmacies in west central Indiana. During the time my children were growing up, I worked part time in several towns in the area. My only time working corporate pharmacy was a 4 year stretch at Walmart in Danville, Illinois, from 2008-2012. Not a bad experience but I still liked my time working for independents, although the pay was much less. Frank Fitch made an impression on me when i worked at Wynkoop's during high school. He was the one who encouraged me to go into pharmacy. Meeting you and other women pharmacists also helped me realize my goal of becoming a pharmacist. I hope you are doing well.
