ROSSVILLE--Carolyn Jane Burkle, 72 of Rossville, died at 12:05 a.m. Tuesday , June 7 2005, at Mulberry Health and Retirement Center.
Born Feb. 3, 1933, in Carroll County, she graduated in 1951 from Delphi High School and was a 1954 graduate of Methodist School of Nursing.
She married John R. Burkle on Nov.,17, 1956, and he survives.
Mrs Burkle worked as a nurse at St. Elizabeth Medical Center and for Dr. Charles Mather before becoming a homemaker. She also helped her husband with their farm.
She was a member of Pyrmont United Methodist Church, holding several different offices with-in the church. She was also a member of United Methodist Women and Clay Township Home Economics Club. She was a district officer for the Lafayette United Methodist Women, District 3 leader of Farm Bureau, a former board member of Carroll County Farm Bureau and the former Clay County Farm Bureau and was formerly on the board of directors for the Lucille Haines United Methodist Rehabilitation Home.
Mrs, Burkle enjoyed sewing,gardening, quilting, music and collecting teddy bears and Gone With The Wind plates.
Surviving with her husband are two sons, Phillip Burkle (wife: Lyn) of Rossville and James R Burkle (wife: Terri) of Hudson, Ill.: a daughter Susan Benedict(husband: Scott) of Lafayette: and two sisters, Doris Stull of Wanatah and Betty Burkle of Rossville.
